Working as a Recruiter with a large IT company

Joseph, though he completed his degree in Civil, had a fascination for IT and was exploring opportunities in those firms. After a series of disappointments, he got selected in one of the leading Recruitment firm as an IT Recruiter in mid-2018.

Initial few months were good but then he started to become restless. It was an outsourcing firm where they were recruiting Talent for their clients. Some of the key challenges that he faced were:

  • The task assigned to him was very Basic. All he was doing was tele-calling where his job was to source the CVs, filter them on basis of certain specifications given to him and finally forward the selected ones to others for Interviews
  • Not getting any credit for the work he was doing and in fact was not even paid for the candidates who don’t turn up for Interviews or who didn’t accept the offer. He was also getting negative ratings for the candidates who left the job in first 3 months
  • There was no growth as he was not learning anything new and HR as a domain still was alien to him

Joseph, later, switched to another IT company as an in-house recruiter but the challenges more or less were the same. He was still far away from Recruitment as a function and is working more like a Resume sourcing agent. He approached us to seek our help in learning more on Training & Development as he felt Trainer was a much better & respectable job

Joseph has understood the gaps and has decided to learn more about HR as a strategy before deciding on a particular role. He is learning about Recruitment strategies, Competency frameworks, Instructional design, L&D and Performance Management.
